The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to dive into the festive spirit than with a day filled with joy, laughter, and holiday cheer? Join us at the annual community event, Candy Cane Lane and Village, a highlight of the Northern Lights Festival, where the entire community is invited to embark on a holiday adventure like no other. Start Your Journey at the IVGID Rec Center
The festivities kick off at the IVGID Rec Center, where Candy Cane Lane, sponsored by IVGID Parks and Recreation, begins. Celebrate with complimentary cookies, hot cider, coffee, and cocoa awaiting you. As you savor these treats, drop your Letters to Santa in the special direct-to-the-North Pole mailbox. Parents, elevate your experience with a selection of spirits to “adult your beverage” for $10. PS – kids are encouraged to bring their pre-written letters!
Follow Candy Cane Lane
The holiday adventure continues with a festive path adorned with decorations, guided by costumed IVGID Parks & Rec Staff and enthusiastic “ELFunteers” in red and white vests and holiday headbands who will lead you towards Candy Cane Village. Make stops at Santa’s Workshop and experience holiday delights along the way.
Santa’s Grand Entrance
At around 3:00 PM, watch in awe as Santa and Mrs. Lollie Claus make a grand entrance along Candy Cane Lane at the Gazebo! Arriving in style aboard the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District’s fire engine, they will lead the “Santa Stroll” to the magical Candy Cane Village on the UNR campus.
Activities and Giveaways Galore
Candy Cane Village will be a festive celebration with activities and giveaways sponsored by local service clubs, agencies, and nonprofits. Pet Network, AAUW, Rotary of Tahoe Incline, Daisy Daycare. Be sure to have “Cocoa with the Captain” with Capt. Zirkle of the WCSO Incline Substation and enjoy complimentary refreshments provided by UNR.
North Lake Tahoe Toys for Tots will be collecting donations. Did you know: Village Toys offers 20% off all charitable purchases (Thank you, Blake).
Photos with Santa
Candy Cane Village is the place to capture magical memories. Stop by for complimentary digital photos with Santa and Mrs. Lollie Claus, courtesy of Nina Photography. Your holiday memories will be instantly delivered directly to you.
Live Performances and Community Singalong
Immerse yourself in the festive spirit with live performances by the Incline Elementary School Choir at Candy Cane Village inside Patterson Hall at 4:00 PM. Join the community singalong and let the joyful tunes fill the air.
Snow-filled Science Fun at TERC
Love snow?! Head to the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) building on the UNR Campus from 2 PM to 5 PM for fun-filled and festive science activities related to snow. Engage in hands-on activities, from creating reactions used by ski resorts to understanding the formation of snowflakes. Activities cater to students of all ages, encouraging critical thinking skills.
Seamless Shuttles for a Sustainable Experience
To make your experience seamless, safe, and sustainable, shuttles will run between the IVGID Rec Center and UNR Primm Library Parking Lot starting at 2:00 PM, operating approximately every 15 minutes until the event ends. Free parking is available at both locations, encouraging families to leave their vehicles at the start of Candy Cane Lane to fully enjoy the festivities.
Sip and Snack at Country Club Mall
Before diving into Candy Cane Lane and Village, don’t forget to check out the Sip and Snack Event at Country Club Mall from 12 PM to 3 PM. Learn more and add an extra layer of enjoyment to your holiday celebrations.
