With the launch of the Lifelong Learning for Adults: Watercolor series on May 3 and online meeting room reservations, the Incline Village Community Center at 855 Alder Avenue continues to expand services. The old library building is the new home of Incline Village-Crystal Bay Justice Court as well as the Community Center and is managed by Washoe County Senior Services.
In collaboration with the library, the Community Center will offer the 5-week watercolor for beginners series starting Friday, May 3 at 2 pm and hosted by artist and library staff member Jackie Peacock-Burton. Learn about basic supplies and materials (provided free with registration), painting florals, landscapes, and night scenes, and culminates in an artist reception on May 31.
The Time-out Tuesday series where adults can connect and relax with a hands-on activity continues on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 4:30 pm. Join us in May for Container Gardening on May 7 and 3D Art on Canvas on May 21. Community Center programs are funded by Washoe County Senior Services and hosted by the Incline Village Library.
The Community Center also has 4 different rooms available for public meeting or activity use. Groups including Mah Jongg (Mondays), Chess Club (Wednesdays), and Bridge (Fridays) use the rooms with new players welcome.
Availability and reservations for the rooms which include two activity rooms, a board room, and an office can be made online at the Incline Village Community Center web page or library website. The building is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Incline Village Library continues to offer great programs in May including a performance by Kantu Inka featuring the rhythms and instruments of Andean Peru on Saturday, May 18.
The Tahoe Talks: Civic Engagement series focuses on ways to improve our democracy and engage with elected officials. Join guest expert Judge E. Alan Tiras on Tuesday, May 14, as we weigh the pros and cons of US Supreme Court term limits.
These programs complement all of the library’s great services including Storytime every Tuesday and Thursday, Book a Librarian, and Write Your Life Memoir Workshop. Visit our website for full details.
And the Tahoe summer kicks off on Saturday June 1 as the library partners with ‘Waste Not’ to host the Summer Reading Block Party and Community Clean-Up Day. Clean-up starts at 9 am, followed by the Block Party at 11 am. Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and enjoy festivities, including music, food, face painting, local agency and non-profit info booths, and more.
