Community Appreciation – IHS Custodians

March 15, 2023 | Grace Hubrig

Incline Village High School was deemed unsafe for students and staff due to a gas leak, and was closed Tuesday. IHS Custodians worked tirelessly to dig out access to the leak.

From Incline High School Admin:

We’d like to celebrate some truly heroic employees that spent the last nine hours digging out the gas line on the roof.
Marvin Cruz, Frank Espino, Antonio Cruz, and Antonio Reyes worked non-stop today to dig a 4′ deep trench the length of the 3rd floor roof from Mr. Canino’s room to the end of the music room! IPM also helped our super crew in digging the trench. Thank you to SW Gas for testing our gas line and making sure the boilers work.
We’d again like to thank our entire Highlander Staff, our students, NLT Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, and Tara Cannon. All parties were cooperative, helpful, and proactive.
Handmade thank you cards would be a lovely gesture to show how thankful we all are for the 9 hours of digging our custodians did today so we can get back in school tomorrow

From their Facebook –

“March has been a wild ride so far with storm after storm and some peaks of sunshine in between. We hope you’ve been able to get to the mountain to play in the fresh snow or are enjoying the photos and webcam views from the comfort of your home.

Big shout-out to Mountain Ops and our entire staff for getting the mountain open through ALL these storms! THANK YOU!!!”

The recent glimpses of clear skies, frosted forests, and Lake Tahoe’s mesmerizing blue hues have a way of perfectly framing nature’s power and beauty. Amidst a series of no less than nine extreme storm systems, we find ourselves simultaneously grateful for the abundance of snow and belittled by the size of the berms.

The need to double down on the Tahoe region’s climate action strategies could not be more urgent. Increasingly extreme weather events will continue to hit the Sierra – from mega droughts to atmospheric rivers. These and other impacts of climate change may have you questioning what strategies are in place to conserve Tahoe’s beloved communities and environment into the future? From modernizing land use policies to improving water quality and treating our overstocked forests, many of the solutions for tomorrow are built on Tahoe’s complicated legacy.
