Local Lens – Community Updates

May 3, 2023 | Linda Offerdahl

TRANSPORTATION

The Tahoe Transportation Plan has been approved by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners. Thank you, Alexis Hill. Now the hard work begins. How do we move these impressive plans forward? Priority (that means money) is being placed on increasing rideshare services through TARTConnect, a multi-use path between Incline Village and Crystal Bay, and better snow removal from our sidewalks.

Thanks to our web guru, Julie Malkin-Manning, IVCBA now has a page dedicated to transportation, check it out here. It has information such as rides to the airport, TART and TARTConnect, RTC Van Pools. Additionally, it is updated with the community issues around transportation right now. Looking for links to the TTD and the mobility hub? The Tahoe Transportation Plan? You can find them all here. IVCBA has a committee on Workforce Transportation. You can sign up by sending an email to info@ivcba.org.

CAB MEETINGS

I recommend attending the CAB, Citizen Advisory Board meetings held monthly by Washoe County. The May 2 meeting was a presentation by TRPAs Karen Fink, who spoke on the work being done around housing and zoning.  The Washoe Tahoe Housing Partnership Roadmap will be presented at the CAB meeting on June 5. These are professional presentations with time for community input.

WASHOE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONER MEETINGS

We need your voice heard at local meetings! Attending the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting via zoom will be available on Tuesday, May 9. This is to allow public comment from Incline residents on issues that pertain to them. There is an issue on short term rentals on the agenda. The Incline Public Library is setting up the zoom for any Incline residents to speak, the meeting begins at 10am on Tuesday May 9th.

WASHOE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

WCSD LISTENED…do I have your attention? There is a second community meeting tonight about Incline Middle School in the Duffield Theater from 6-7pm. Public schools are at the heart of every community, and we need to keep ours intact. Get the details here.

SHOPPING FOR MOTHER’S DAY

I did not know this until I looked at the IVCBA calendar, there is a craft fair at the Chateau on Saturday!! The IVCBA event calendar is a great resource for all of the local community events! Bridget Giroux Designs has a pop-up event going on this weekend too. Find them in the Incline Plaza building above Bite. As long as you are out and about, I always like to head over to see what Potlatch and Panache have going on. I definitely need to do some retail therapy!

BEST OF TAHOE

This is where you vote on your favorite businesses on the North Shore. We need YOU to vote for Incline Village and Crystal Bay businesses. This is a shameless ploy to get exposure for IVCBA businesses! I voted this week, after getting a plea from Steve T at Bowl Incline. I hope next year we can get a lot more of our businesses on this extensive list of the best of everything. VOTE HERE daily until May 17!

Don’t miss a thing! Head over to https://business.ivcba.org/event-calendar to view all the events and ways to engage with the community.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The Regional Transportation Commissions of Southern Nevada, Washoe County and Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization were awarded more than $4 million in grants from NV Energy as part of its Transit Electrification Grant program.

The program is a component of the Economic Recovery Transportation Electrification Plan, required by the 2021 Nevada Legislature and approved in January 2022. This new grant program supports the acceleration of public transportation electrification efforts in the state, particularly for projects in historically underserved communities.
