Pet Network Humane Society announced sponsorship, made possible through the incredible generosity of the Gately Family Foundation. All adoption fees for animals are waived for the entire month, ensuring that deserving shelter pets find loving homes just in time for the holidays.
This heartwarming promotion doesn’t stop at simply finding homes—it also prioritizes health and safety for new furry family members. Each adoption includes a fixed-rate voucher for one year of veterinary care at the Pet Network Community Hospital. Additionally, every dog adopted will come equipped with a Fi GPS collar, offering pet parents peace of mind and an extra layer of protection for their new companions. New this year, each adopted pet will also go home with an emergency “go” bag courtesy of Pet Evac Pak!
With a nod to Anne Sullivan, who Mark Twain dubbed “The Miracle Worker” for her wonderous work with Helen Keller away back in the 19th century, I nominate my chiropractor, Dr. Jon, as The Miracle Worker of the 21st century.
Granted, he did not have sight and hearing issues to deal with like Anne did with Helen, but I brought Dr. Jon a pain in my back that would make a cow bellow.
I have felt bone pain before, and I have felt muscle pain before, but my introduction to nerve pain commanded my total attention, and dropped me to the floor like a stone. Yes, the Sciatic Nerve carries with it all the high-voltage and fire power of the third rail in a New York City subway, and when it comes to surprises there is nothing quite like the Sciatica.
Where muscle pain will elicit a cry of, “Ouch!” Bone pain will call for a stronger word like, “Damn!” But Sciatic pain is guaranteed to sally forth a laundry list of tightly knitted expletives, as in, “@#$%&*!” (I cleaned that up for the benefit of this fine family journal, but you get the idea.)
So, enter Dr. Jon, who regards the Sciatic Nerve as a member of his family, a member that needs to be cared for and invited to Christmas dinner. He showed me with a model how nerves weave in and out of the spine, and get easily pinched, which hurts like H.E. Double Hockey Sticks, if you know what I mean…
Then he pulled and pried me until I was as flexible as a circus performer, and I’ve never been quite so tall in my long life. But the real miracle came with the exercises Dr. Jon gifted me to take home. I did not take much stock in them at first, but they have earned my endearing respect.
My favorite, and last to come to the table, is the Sciatic Nerve Floss, where you stretch your extended leg out and about like doing the Hokey Pokey, but different. This procedure flosses the Sciatic Nerve and allows one to slow dance with a minimum of sporadic cries of pain, which comes as a pleasant relief to your dance partner.
There is more good news to share, but the bottom line is I believe I could run the high hurdles tomorrow morning, or perhaps the low hurdles, and finish in the top three.
One of my chief pleasures in life is to witness people at work who are really good at what they do, and Dr. Jon is one of those who commands respect and admiration in his chiropractic practice. I might add, it brings even more pleasure yet to witness a dedicated professional while the pain in your back that is running down your leg, is slowly ebbing away.
In case Mr. Sciatica should ever come calling on you, Dr. Jon’s practice is called Backcountry. And to bring a smile, you might mention that you were referred by one of Dr. Jon’s contented backalaureates…

There are plenty of chain hotels in destinations all over the world, some fancy and some not, but all with their signature style. Sometimes, though, when people travel, they want to immerse themselves more in the community to get a true sense of a place. In other words, go where the locals go for a more local experience. Here are a few boutique hotels around Lake Tahoe where the locals go:
Incline Lodge, Incline Village
In the summer of 2021, Incline Village residents the Warners made their dream come true by buying the inn on the corner of Highway 28 and Country Club Drive and transforming it into a clean, welcoming place with upgraded amenities and a focus on fun, quality, community, and adventure.

As we head into the holiday season, we invite our community to celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 29 by supporting the entrepreneurs, makers, and local employers who keep Tahoe’s economy vibrant. Small businesses are the backbone of our region—they provide jobs, spark innovation, and reflect the unique character of our mountain communities. Whether you’re shopping locally, dining out, or recommending a favorite business to a friend, your support makes a real difference. This Small Business Saturday, let’s show up for the businesses that show up for Tahoe every day.

Get Ready to Sparkle: The Northern Lights Community Celebration is Coming!
November 26, 2025 | Julie Malkin-Manning
The holidays are officially upon us, and there is no better way to kick off the season than by gathering with friends and neighbors for an afternoon of pure festive fun.
On Saturday, December 6, we are turning UNR’s Prim Library into a winter wonderland for the annual Northern Lights Community Celebration. From 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, get ready for a merry day of music, laughter, and that special kind of magic that only happens when our community comes together.
If you’ve been looking for the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit, this is it. We are serving up wholesome holiday chaos in the best possible way, and you are invited to come play!
This year, we are pulling out all the stops with entertainment that highlights the incredible talent right here in our community.
We have the Incline Elementary Choir bringing the cute factor to an all-time high, followed by the Middle School Jazz Band delivering smooth holiday tunes. And you don’t want to miss the High School Cheer Team dialing up the energy with the very same performance they are taking to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
Before show, keep your eyes peeled for Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will be making their entrance on a North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Fire Truck. Need a warm-up? The Washoe County Sheriff Department and Cpt. Cola will be on deck serving hot cocoa to keep everyone toasty. UNR will be providing hot cider and cookies, and Raley’s has donated snack size sandwiches, perfect for elves.
One of the most heartwarming parts of the celebration is our Giving Tree Forest. This year, we are featuring close to 30 holiday trees, each one decorated by a local organization to represent their mission and impact.
This isn’t just about pretty lights (though there will be plenty of those!). Each tree features opportunities for you to give back; whether through time, treasure, or talent. It is a beautiful reminder of the generosity that fuels our town.
Plus, we need your help! Community members will vote for their favorite tree (People’s Choice) and a committee will select two additional winners:
Most Creative & Crafty Tree (Best use of handmade/recycled materials)
Most On-Theme Tree (Best reflects the organization’s mission)
Make sure to cast your vote and help your favorite organization earn bragging rights for the year!
It wouldn’t be a celebration without games and crafts. Organizations from all over the region are hosting tables with interactive activities for kids and adults alike, including an elf scavenger hunt and holiday card making stations.
Here is a sneak peek at who you can meet:

Pet Network
Rotary Tahoe Incline
Sierra Community House
Toys for Tots
BGCNLT
IVGID Parks & Rec
The Pet Network

There will be plenty of photo spots to capture your holiday card memories, games to play, and crafts to make and take home.
We will wrap up the festivities with a spectacular solar-powered community tree lighting. This year’s tree was donated by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and will shine bright as a symbol of our shared holiday spirit.
This event is proudly brought to you by IVCBA, IVGID, UNR Lake Tahoe, NLTFPD, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and Raley’s.
So, mark your calendars, grab your mittens, and join us for an afternoon that promises to be the highlight of the season. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

In The News – How an Incline Village pilot program is reinventing fire mitigations in neighborhoods across the west coast

As new technologies emerge to address intensifying wildfires, regional partners saw an opportunity in Incline Village to put these new innovations to the test.
“Can we take all this new technology,” Tahoe Fund executive director, Amy Berry, said, “and use it to identify the mitigations that would matter the most in the neighborhoods, to try to keep neighborhoods as safe as possible?”
The question became the impetus for the Fire Smart Community Pilot in the Tyrolian Village neighborhood to understand how to create more fire ready communities.

In The News – IVGID moves forward with reinstating employee beach access

The Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees is moving toward reinstating beach access for employees after a lengthy discussion during its Nov. 12 meeting.
The move would reverse a January 2023 decision to remove beach access for out-of-district employees.
When the board removed access in 2023, trustees said the policy violated the beach deed and could put the district at risk of lawsuits.
