INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Plans to create accessible access to more than half a mile of boardwalks in the Tahoe Meadows off Mt Rose Highway are moving full steam ahead thanks to support from the NV Energy Foundation, Keyser Foundation, Steven and Sandy Hardie and dozens of Tahoe Fund donors. With this funding now secured, construction is slated to begin this fall on these major accessibility improvements for the entire community.

Earlier today, project partners from the Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Committee, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation and the USDA Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest joined Tahoe Fund donors at the meadows to celebrate this significant milestone. At the event, the NV Energy Foundation presented a $35,000 check to the Tahoe Fund, the final funding needed to meet the $75,000 match provided by Steven and Sandy Hardie, bringing the total raised for the project to over $150,000.

On a beautiful Friday afternoon in Incline Village, a bunch of wriggling and happy yet well-behaved kindergartners file into Ms. Trina Kleinhenz’s Makerspace at Incline Elementary School.

That day’s class was joined by two special guests, author Joanna Howes and illustrator Alex Bailey of Wild Sierra Nevada: A Family Nature Guide. When the students sat attentively and settled into the class, Howes and Bailey introduced themselves.

“I always loved to draw and paint, did that throughout my life, and went to school to become a scientist. And now I draw and do art for my job,” Ms. Alex Bailey tells the kids…

The Local Lens – Golf, Music & Wine Weekend

June 5, 2024 | Linda Offerdahl

MY SUMMER BEGINS ON THE GOLF COURSE…

I played my first round on Monday at the Mountain Course with the Teesters. There is something very summer-like about spending the morning playing golf, like being on vacation. I love the camaraderie among girlfriends, the freshly mown grass and the beautiful flowers. I started golfing 50 years ago, making me one of the oldest Teesters, both chronologically and the number of years I have been a member. Whether it’s hiking, pickle ball, the beach or boating, the season we live for all year, is here. We are lucky to have great weather in June, before the big rush of summer visitors. Enjoy it!

SUCCESSFUL CLEAN-UP DAY AND BLOCK PARTY!

Kudos to Madonna Dunbar and Waste Not for keeping the tradition of the spring clean-up going with nearly 100 registered participants and many others joining in to clean up our village. A big shout out to John Crockett for starting a new tradition, the block party at the library that also kicks off their summer reading program.  The Meet and Greet with nonprofits provided great family entertainment.

CALLING ALL MUSIC LOVERS

Great things are happening with music in our schools. Don’t miss the spring concert at Incline Middle School this Thursday, June 6. Cliff Porter, musician from Jelly Bread and a homegrown “jazz great” is performing alongside these young musicians.  Walk across the street to the patio at Bowl Incline to finish off the evening with more music!

WINE ON THE WATER IS SATURDAY IN KINGS BEACH!

This annual event is a “must do”. For starters, the event is at the Event Center, right on the beach. It feels like you have dropped into a summer resort (oh wait, we live in one!) to be sipping great wine on the beach.  It supports a great cause: Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, which runs the Duffield Youth Center, the club at Incline Elementary School. This wonderful after school program is much needed for working families.

In The News – How this winter’s conditions helped crews catch up on burn piles in Tahoe

June 3, 2024 | Member Submitted

Originally Published in the Tahoe Daily Tribune, 06/03/2024, Written by Katelyn Welsh

TAHOE BASIN, Calif./Nev. – A team of three agencies have caught up on their to-do list when it comes to burn piles on Nevada state lands in the Tahoe Basin, largely thanks to this winter’s conditions.

The burn conditions this winter starkly contrast to the year before. During the 2022-2023 winter, “We had very poor pile burning conditions with piles saturated from early winter rain,” Forester Anna Higgins with the Nevada Division of Forestry says, “and then buried by record amounts of snow.”

Those conditions limited the burn weather window. This, along with drought, and lack of fire crews during wildfire off-season or prescribed fire qualified personnel in past years all contributed to the backlog of burn piles. Higgins burnt piles as old as 15 years.
