IVCBA Kicks off ‘Inclined To Bloom’

May 28, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

Spring and summer are glorious seasons at Lake Tahoe. Now that Memorial Day is over and June is right around the corner, planting and landscaping season are officially here. Many people supplement their perennials with annual flowers that provide continuous blooming and color. Incline commercial centers are no exception. IVCBA is launching a “planters and pots” project to assist with providing a cohesive look in those centers. Hanging planters are being installed in Christmas Tree Village and Village Center. Terra cotta pots with flowering plants will be placed by the bus shelters. All businesses are encouraged to participate by ordering a planter or a decorated terra cotta pot through Linda@IVCBA.org. Community members can help by donating to the Beautification Fund on Incline Tahoe Foundation’s website.

Main Street Beautification campaign

The campaign starts with cleanup, particularly with maintaining defensible space around properties. Neighborhoods can become a FAC, Firewise Action Community. Individuals, church groups, and other affiliations can start their own Tahoe Blue Crew. These efforts culminate in a village-wide “Incline Green Clean” sponsored by IVGID’s WasteNot on Saturday, June 7.

The Main Street Beautification committee has several components: Inclined to Bloom ‘Pots and Planters,’ Roundabout Redesign, and Public Art. These programs are all community-led initiatives to beautify  Incline Village.

Perennials vs.  Annuals

Some of these plants bloom once in the season, like daffodils and tulips. Others will have multiple blooms throughout the season. Lupines can be found along Incline Way and other parts of town. Often, people supplement perennials with annuals to add more consistent color. Although all plants benefit from good soil, fertilizer, and regular watering, plants should be chosen based on location and consideration for the environment. Many native plants are drought-resistant and can survive in the native desert soil.  Contact one of IVCBA’s many landscapers for expertise: Incline Property Management, Canopy, Christine Karnofsky Plant Design, and Hoskins Landscape Contractors.

Where to shop

High Sierra Gardens is our local nursery that stocks trees and bushes in addition to flowers. You can spot their location on Tahoe Blvd by their plethora of blooming flowers along the boulevard. If it’s just annuals you are looking for, Grocery Outlet and Raleys are both convenient places.

SUPPORT INCLINED TO BLOOM

Not all of us have a green thumb or a garden. Please help us make Incline a flourishing flowering place to live by donating! You can Donate at Incline Tahoe Foundation.

The Local Lens – Memorial Day Weekend

May 21, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

Memorial Day Weekend is early this year. It’s hard to decide what to do…ski at Palisades? Hit the golf course?  Or go hiking?  Or all of the above! But start your Monday at the Village Green for the annual Vets Club Memorial Day Celebration. Note the new location! Three reasons for moving it: easier for people, especially the older Vets, to get to the site, open to everyone without an IVGID card, and the most important: site dedication and installation of the flags for the Vets Memorial monument. This effort is led by Michael Goss, including the funding and all of the work to get it through the political process at IVGID. Thank you, Michael! Thanks to all of the Veterans for their service to our country…and to the organizations that support them: Incline Village Veterans Club, Onward Ops, PTSD Now!, and Military Officers of America Association.

MAIN STREET BEAUTIFICATION

The roundabout is looking fabulous right now, thanks to Incline Property Management for doing the annual clean-up, pro bono. Thank you, Larry Wodarski and crew! Speaking of the roundabout, a Main Street committee is working on a redesign of the roundabout that would make it more visible to drivers, add irrigation so we can have more perennials, and add more iconic granite boulders to mark it as the gateway to Incline Village and the beautiful East Shore.

Village Clean-up on June 7, starting at Incline Library.

Gather your family and neighbors to pitch in on this important endeavor. Pine needles and other yard debris can present fire hazards, and it’s shocking to see how much litter accumulates over the winter. It’s a twofer…cleaning helps beautify our community as well. Businesses participate as well. Thank you to the many landscapers and yard crews that do so much of the grunt work.

Your reward is the Block Party on June 7? Join the BBQ at the Incline Library Block Party and Summer Reading Kick-off. They are celebrating 20 years in the new building. There will be plenty of nonprofit tables with handouts and activities for kids.

Public Art Committee

Here is another effort to beautify Incline and make it a welcoming place for visitors. It is busy finding symbols of our community and how to incorporate them into functional art pieces that establish an identity for Incline Village. We have a lot of public art already. If you haven’t noticed, it’s time to get out of your car and take a walk! Can you find….Buddha’s eye (UNR lake Tahoe campus), five kids in a Tree (Incline Library), the Parasol Building Statue? I also recommend two walks: The Earth Walk by the Visitor Center with its Galis Dongal (Washoe tribe dwelling) in front. Thank you, Jacqui Chandler!  The East Shore Trail has murals in the tunnel that are fun to discover.

HOMEBUYERS WORKSHOP TOMORROW NIGHT

Incline Village Realtors is spearheading this event at the Chateau on May 22. If you ever dreamed of owning your own home but thought it was out of reach, come and get inspired and learn what assistance is available.

NUTRITION CLASS AT NATURAL GROCER ON SATURDAY

I am greatly relieved to hear that not all fats are bad! Learn more on Saturday at “Demystifying Fat” at Natural Grocer. Why not start your Saturday shopping at this unique market AND go to the class!

IVCBA Housing Committee Update

May 6, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

TAKE THE HOUSING SURVEY!

TRPA and the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation have prepared a survey to assess the needs of the entire region: SURVEY >

ATTEND THE IVR FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYERS WORKSHOP ON MAY 22, starting at 5:30 at the Chateau.  Details in the attached flyer. This is sponsored by the Incline Village Realtors. The Housing Committee is helping to organize it and promote it. It is the second event in the Workforce Housing Series. Please invite anyone who is looking to buy property and would like to hear about overcoming the considerable barriers.

Update on Lease to Locals

This is a vehicle for “unlocking existing housing stock” by giving an incentive to landlords to open up a new rental or convert a short-term rental to a long-term rental. It is funded by Washoe County. Since February, one landlord has been accepted into the program, with three more in application review. Of the 54 property leads, almost half have expressed a strong interest. Learn more at: https://placemate.com/lease-to-locals/

Community Outreach
Clare, Linda, and River have made presentations and spoken with several community groups, including the two Rotary clubs, AAUW, St. Vincent group at St. Francis of Assisi,  and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church.

Workforce Housing Series

#1 was the event on Placemate’s Lease to Locals at UNR in January.

#2 is the IVR First Time Homebuyers Workshop

#3 is TBD and tentatively planned for the fall.

TRPA’S Living Communities Working Group

Jim McNamara is the Washoe County representative. Chris Wood is the alternate and will be attending meetings on behalf of Washoe Tahoe. The committee is in the second phase of its efforts to make housing more accessible while maintaining and improving environmental protections. The current phase of policy review and capacity building is called Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin. The Phase 2 amendments for height and density are intended to make deed-restricted multi-family projects more viable. Washoe County has just finished a series of public input meetings to consider the viability of those policies in Washoe Tahoe.

The Local Lens – Star Follies Weekend & Civic Duty

April 30, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

INCLINE STAR FOLLIES THIS WEEKEND!

For 25 years, the Follies has been bringing the community and the schools together for fun and fundraising…with a 4-year hiatus during COVID.  I was IES PTA president that first year when Debbie Deverill approached us about the event. It quickly grew into a separate charitable organization that raised money for all of the public schools. Chris and Patti Plastiras were among the original founders….and still involved. The show could not go on without Kathie Goldberg behind the scenes. It’s a tribute to its success that so many people have been involved since the beginning and it has also attracted new sponsors. Notably, the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation and Incline Education Fund have ensured that this wonderful show will endure for another 20 years. You can still get tickets or just make a donation at inclinestarfollies.org.

CIVIC DUTY TODAY!!

Starting at 4pm at Incline Library:

Tahoe Transportation District(TTD) has a “self-guided” open house on its SR 28 improvement projects. Learn about North Parking Project, plans for a transit hub at Spooner and central corridor improvements.

Starting at 5:30 at the Chateau:

Washoe County is hosting a workshop on proposed changes to the Washoe Tahoe planning “bible”, the Tahoe Area Plan. These changes are primarily designed to align Washoe County housing policies with TRPA’s “Phase 2 housing amendments supporting deed-restricted, affordable, moderate, and achievable multi-family developments”. There is an in-person workshop Wednesday, April 30 at the Chateau.  There is a LOT to digest. Washoe County planning has been holding meeting and disseminating information since the beginning of the year. Get the background material at

The Local Lens – Easter Weekend in Incline Village

April 16, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

Incline churches are active in our community in many ways, helping the needy and lending support to individuals and nonprofits. Many people have found a church home here. But, if you are one of those who only attend on the big religious holidays, this weekend is IT!  Brave the cold for the traditional sunrise service at Burnt Cedar with Pastor Jeff Ogden and the Village Church. St. Francis has a sunrise service too, but in the sanctuary at 7 am. St. Patrick’s and Cornerstone also have Easter services. Most have an Easter egg hunt, or breakfast (St. Francis), and Village Church also has a traditional Easter brunch. And of course, check websites for other services during Easter week.

The Hyatt Easter dinner is a great reason to head over to Osteria Sierra after the Easter Egg Hunt at the Hyatt.

If you are looking for something special for a sweet gift, check out the Tandem chocolates (handcrafted and hand-painted!) at Tahoe Gifting Company.

PREPARING FOR WILD-FIRE SEASON

What can we do to protect our property against fires and help to keep our insurance?  Attend the vegetation management and home hardening workshop at Prim Library on the UNR campus. It is one of a series of workshops throughout April.

YARD CLEAN-UP is important too. IVGID starts its yard waste pick-up on May 5. Look for the stickers (96 free!) in the mail; the yard waste bags must have the stickers in order to be picked up.   NLTFPD starts its defensible space appointments and curbside chipping in mid-May as well.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Incline Star Follies at the high school, May 2-3

GREASE is the Word fundraiser for Lake Tahoe School on May 17. Check out the ICE, Incline Center for Events at Bowl Incline!

Wine on the Water Dinner Series – May 2, May 16, and June 25

IVCBA Housing Committee Update

April 1, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

Written and submitted by Linda Offerdahl and Chris Wood

HOUSING COMMITTEE SPONSORS

A big thank you to both Rotary Clubs, Incline Village and Tahoe-Incline, for funding this program.  Reach out to Linda@IVCBA.org if you are a potential sponsor.

UPCOMING WORKFORCE HOUSING SERIES

May 22: First-Time Homebuyers Workshop presented by Incline Village Realtors

IVCBA is helping to put on this exciting event for prospective homeowners.. This presentation will identify banking programs, financing and options to help new buyers purchase a residence in Incline Village/Crystal Bay. It will be presented in Spanish as well as English. This program is aimed at housing ownership for the “missing middle” in the community –  teachers, police, firefighters small business owners and managers.

UPDATE ON LEASE TO LOCALS

The January presentation featured  Chase Janvrin from Placemate.  “Lease to Locals” is a program to incentivize residential property owners with a one-time cash payment to rent for at minimum a season or a year to persons working in the area. The program calls for capped rents for income-qualified persons. Lease to Locals matches potential tenants with the owner. This program is already yielding results. After just over a month of operation in the area there have been 22 inquiries from residential owners about renting through the program. Three of these owners are now actively looking for tenants to enter the Lease to Locals program.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

A team from the Housing Committee has met with or presented to community groups including Rotary clubs,, AAUW, IVR and MLS, St. Vincent de Paul chapter, and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church Sunday service.

ORGANIZATIONS WITH HOUSING PROGRAMS

We are identifying “partner” organizations that offer housing assistance.

CONSIDERATION

  • Presentation by Tahoe-Truckee Workforce Housing Agency and the Housing Hub
  • Presentation by Reno Housing Authority about their voucher program

The survey we gave last spring identified these  presentation topics as well:

  • A community-member panel discussing how the community views workforce housing needs and potential solutions.
  • What is the potential for development/redevelopment in IV/CB, with a look at zoning and regulations?
  • Can accessory dwelling units (ADUs) play a role in lessening the workforce housing shortage?

One task ahead of the Housing Committee is to gather data about the supply and demand for housing in the IVCB area. Also, the Housing Committee is looking to add participants to the Committee to assist in its ongoing work.

If you would like to get involved please contact Linda Offerdahl: linda@ivcba.org

The Local Lens – Spring is Here!

March 26, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

SPRING IS HERE…and we all know what that means. Get out the spring-colored sweaters and prepare for the spring snowstorms! I hope you were among the locals hanging out at the beach over the weekend and enjoying that beautiful weather.

IVCBA is launching its annual beautification campaign starting with SPRING CLEANING…your yard, your neighborhood, your business, OUR community! Those windy storms this winter have no doubt led to an accumulation of pine cones and needles. Mark your calendars for June 7,  the annual Incline Green Clean (Waste Not) and the  block party at Incline Library.  As activities and events roll out, we will highlight them.

Beginning in April…

Other beautification efforts:

Roundabout Redesign:  LeFrancois Engineering is the project manager. We have met with all of the agencies involved. When we have the next iteration of the design, we will  ask for more input from the community.

Public Art committee: is being launched this spring. If you are interested in being on it, let me know.

Inclined to Bloom: . I have heard reports of daffodils already…keep watching for them. I hope you planted your own bulbs. They are hardy enough to withstand the snow, just like all of us locals!!  Take pictures! We are currently researching the feasibility of pots and planters in commercial areas. We hope to offer summer gardening classes as well

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

IVCBA is collaborating with Washoe County and UNR on a Washoe Tahoe Leadership Academy. This is a great learning opportunity and a way to find out how you can be more involved in positive ways in our community. Registration is closing this week. I understand there a couple spots left. Here’s the link for registration.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH celebration at the Hyatt.

Tomorrow night, March 27 I am meeting up with a girlfriend at the Hyatt’s Osteria restaurant for a Cakebread Cellar’s wine pairing dinner.  With the Lone Eagle closed, Osteria is taking over the role of presenting wine dinners with sommelier Jana Manfredi.

The Local Lens – Incline Boosters & Upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Events

March 12, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

The Incline Boosters Crab Feed has been an annual event for longer than we have lived here.  I remember the early years when the parents cooked the crab and pasta. Greg and Lisa Flanders and John Paganelli were the chefs for many years. It has always been a popular community event that sells out with all of the locals gladly supporting Incline High School. When the event moved to the Hyatt, the fundraising was taken to a new level. Under the leadership of Booster President Tara Cannon, the event is moving to the newest events center in town, ICE, aka Incline Center for Events at  Bowl Incline. Owners Steve and Tracy Tomkovicz are transforming it by covering the bowling lanes with flooring to allow an oversold crowd of 300 to eat crab and spaghetti and bid wildly on auction items and “fund a need”.

The Boosters is not just for athletics. Indeed, academics, music, and art are alive and well at Incline High School. The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation has invested greatly in our local youth, the latest commitment being to the transformation of the building and to its academics. The Duffield Theater is truly a community resource and holds sellout crowds of close to 300 for the annual Incline Star Follies, scheduled this year for May 2-3.  I attended the Rotary Speech and Music Contest last week in the Duffield Theater. Tonight, I plan to attend the high school music concert in the Duffield Youth Theater at 6:30.

A big shout out to John Crockett, who has been running our public library and giving people of all ages a reason to visit. It’s not just for books anymore. Activities, including art for adults are offered several times a week. Check out the IVCBA.org calendar to see all of them for the week. John is moving on to a different job as a Data Analyst for Washoe County. Best of luck, John!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY can be celebrated at nearly every bar and restaurant in Incline, but for a really special treat, celebrate with St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. I just attended a wonderful service with Reverent Clare Novak last Sunday and learned about their potluck St. Pat’s lunch next Sunday right after the service.  Kudos to them for housing the Incline Village Nursery School, Tahoe Connection for Families, and the weekly food distribution by Sierra Community House.

Village Center is celebrating St. Pat’s too!  “Eat Drink and be Irish” and shop the blowout sale at Sierra Verde this Friday. Saturday has a St. Paddy’s Day vibe at Glasses Wine Bar, complete with entertainment. I’m guessing they are not serving green wine, but enjoy their elevated wine selections!

SNOWFEST this Friday & Saturday in Incline Village & Crystal Bay

March 5, 2025 | Linda Offerdahl

Snowfest is really coming to Incline this year, thanks in part to Darya Shahvaran with Tahoe Gifting Co., and also a board member of Travel North Tahoe Nevada.  Under her leadership, Christmas Tree Village is having a block party on Saturday! Stroll the entire boardwalk so you don’t miss a thing. Numerous merchants are participating, but Tahoe Gifting is definitely “ground zero” for the party, complete with music.

Starting Friday, join in the fun at Diamond Peak for the UNR at Lake Tahoe Jib Jam from 9:30-3:30, followed by Winter Fest Après fun at the UNR at Lake Tahoe Campus. Food, DJ, Ski movies, and more! AND THEN, it’s off to the Crystal Bay Club for the Electric Flashback Fundraiser for the Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation.

What! You missed out on a Girl Scout Cookie order?  Find out if you really can pair a cookie with wine at Glasses’ Wine Bar on Thursday and Fridays. Their “official” Snowfest event is Saturday evening with music by the Ellis/Jones band.

As usual, Bowl Incline has both nights covered with Snowfest events, Friday Night Bowls and Beats, SNOWFEST Edition, and Saturday afternoon with the Strike Derby. I recommend trying their new restaurant, Lane 17 Lounge, as well.

For the most unique event, check out the Nevada Nordic Free Heel Fest sponsored by TNTNV and organized by Tahoe Multisport in the meadow and close to where they groom cross country ski trails open to everyone. SATURDAY ALL DAY!

DID YOU KNOW Tahoe Multisport has a portable sauna?? Polar plunges are very popular and best done in conjunction with a sauna!  Check it out, weekends at the boat launch in Tahoe Vista.

By now, you may have forgotten that there is a TON of events in North Lake Tahoe! Check them all out at North Lake Tahoe’s Snowfest Website: https://www.tahoesnowfest.org
