Breaking News – The Incline Star Follies are Back!

After a pandemic-related hiatus, the Incline Star Follies are BACK !!! For those of you new to town, The Incline Star Follies is a family cabaret filled with all LOCAL talent. Students, teachers and community members take to the stage to lip-synch great songs and dance their hearts out. This is an amazing community-wide event and “Friend Raiser” that creates cross-cultural and cross-generational relationships through the joy of dance and comedy.
100% of the proceeds raised go to support our local Incline Village schools.They are currently looking for student cast members. ALL Incline 5th, 8th and high school students (9th-12th) are invited to apply. Application forms have been distributed at IES, IMS, IHS and LTS and are due back (to school) by this FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th. Sixteen students from each level (5th, 8th, high school) will be randomly selected from all eligible applications received. Students are eligible as long as they are students in good standing at their respective schools.

Head over to Incline High School from 6pm to 8pm today! (12/13) for Winterfest, a community event featuring food, cookie decorating, trivia games, dreidel games, and more. Friends and family are welcome to attend! Entrance is $5, and you can enjoy pizza and a drink for an additional $5.
Make your way over to Gus’ BBQ to check out the Incline Middle School’s Holiday Light Show. The robotics class has created a light show timed to holiday music as an entry for the Incline Northern Lights competition.
Mark your caldendars for the second annual Incline Elementary School Holiday parade, Dec 22 at 10:00. Come watch the K-5th grade students maneuver their robots down the parade route all decked out in “holiday attire”.

Congratulations to 2 more of our amazing IHS teachers, Amy Henderson Seitz and Courtney Taves for completing their Maintenance Certification for their National Boards. This achievement is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that demonstrates their accomplishments and commitment to their craft. It is the highest certification that a teacher can obtain, with less than 5% of Nevada high school teachers having done so.
IVCBA and IEF would also like to congratulate a few of our high school students – for both athletic and academic achievements:
IHS hosted the exciting Highlander Basketball Tournament last week and Tommy Williams amazed us all by scoring his 1,000th career point! Quite an accomplishment.
And not to be outdone, our first female wrestlers at IHS deserve recognition as well. As Principal Cahill remarked, “Pearl Carle and Isabel De Paz Shine have both shone fearless determination and willingness to step out of their comfort zone serve as an inspiration to us all.”
Principal Cahill also recognized the Highlander JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl Team (JLAB)) for their outstanding achievements. JLAB is a prestigious, nationwide competition that culminates in the Level III JLAB Championship at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., scheduled for June 2024.
Once again, the IHS ‘We the People’ team has made it to the state competition at UNR in February.

Next Monday is Highlander Day! Incoming middle school students get to visit IHS on Dec 11th from 9-11.
IEF would like to send a warm welcome to the new Athletic Director, Sam Banghart, Sam is a Reno native and UNR graduate and will officially start his new role on Dec. 22nd.
New Course offering:
IHS is now offering a dual-credit Emergency Medical Services course.
This TMCC course will be offered on the IHS campus from Jan 9-May 24th. During 8th period.

With the holiday season officially upon us, things are going to get a little busy around town.
Here are a few noteworthy items happening at the schools.
INCLINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
*Next week is the IES Scholastic Book Fair – a great place to start your holiday shopping!
*IES is piloting a new dedicated art program in hopes of turning their STEM program into STEAM, so plan to attend the Second Annual IES Makerspace Holiday Parade and see all of the exciting collaborative work being done at IES! Mark your calendars for 10:00 on Dec. 22nd.
*The IES choir will be singing at the Candy Cane Lane event on Dec 2nd on the UNR-LT campus. The event is from 2-5pm
INCLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL
*IEF and IMS would like to thank those Villagers who turned out for the recent Trash to Treasure (T to T) community clean up event. Nearly 500 lbs of trash was collected!.
The T to T group will spend the next couple of months sorting and analyzing the trash before beginning turning it all into ‘treasure’.
Callia Schell, a current UNR-LT student will be taking a lead role in helping the students create that treasure – providing not only artistic guidance but also a wonderful opportunity to collaborate on a community-wide project.
*IMS has begun an exciting chapter of MATHCOUNTS. This is an exciting after-school opportunity to get in on some advanced math games and competitions.
*The IMS Robotics class will be participating again in this season’s IVCBS Northern Lights competition. Stay tuned for the display location.

*The National Honor Society students at IHS are providing a Parent’s Night Out on Dec 8th. From 5-8:30.

Incline Village School Update with Incline Education Fund

INCLINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
KOLO 8 came to Incline Elementary School last week to film a story about the successful IES Makerspace.
This exciting program is getting recognition throughout the district! It’s a great model for providing STEM education at the elementary school level and preparing ALL students for a solid foundation.
The “Trash to Treasure” was a great success as students, Rotarians, AAUW members, and local community members collected almost 500 lbs of trash. The middle school jazz band kept everyone entertained, and the Junior Boosters hosted a free BBQ.
INCLINE HIGH SCHOOL: Over 200 students, parents, faculty, and community members attended the IHS Dia de los Muertos Celebration on November 1st, which Boosters and Mi Cultura sponsored. The event was a celebration of the Day of the Dead that showcased a community-made altar as well as traditional decorations, chocolate calaveritas, and pan de muerto. The community enjoyed the over 450 homemade tamales and hot chocolate and the good laughs and camaraderie brought on by the Loteria (bingo) games that earned them fantastic prizes.
Don’t forget the Governor Designated Stem School Open House is Wednesday, 11/08!
Come one, come all – the second annual Incline Elementary School Hispanic Family Info Night is next Tuesday, 11/07, from 5-6:30 pm. at IES. There will be free pizza and childcare.

INCLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Let’s clean up Incline and turn our Trash into Treasure This Saturday, 11/4.
Spend just an hour – either on your own or in a group – ‘cleaning up’ around town. It can be either in your own neighborhood or a particular area where there is known trash. Then bring your trash to Incline Middle School between 11-1 for a free BBQ and some music!
Useable’ pieces of trash will be pulled out and used to create artwork by students with the helpful guidance of our local university, UNR.
A great time was had by all at the annual middle school Halloween Dance. This year, Incline Middle School hosted the festivities, and it looks like every middle schooler in town turned out for a howling good time. Pizza was provided to fuel the dancing feet, and both tricks and treats were had by all as there were spooky hands of candy and the trick of playing as many Taylor Swift songs as she did on the Eras Tour!
The second semester is already upon us, and thanks to the generosity and support of a few of our local community members, Incline Middle School is offering a number of really exciting “Exploratories” each Wednesday. Exploratories are “extra” classes that each IMS student gets to take each Wednesday, from 12-1:40. They are designed to help students explore new areas of interest and potential career directions, as well as the development of new skills in academics, athletics, or leadership.
A HUGE shout-out to Max Jones at Flume Trail Bikes as his donation of mountain bikes has allowed IMS to create a mountain bike class!
IMS is also offering classes this semester in: French culture & culinary, swimming, robotics, bowling, drama, student council, and cross-stitch. And the Mountain Gateway center will be providing incredible opportunities in: forestry, bouldering, rock climbing, yoga, and snowshoeing.

EXCITING NEWS !
Our very own Incline High School was recently awarded a Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam® grant in the amount of $7,500 to create an invention geared towards detecting roof load from snow accumulation. IHS is one of only eight high schools nationwide to be selected as an InvenTeam this year. This is the 20th year of the InveTeams grant initiative.
The IHS InvenTeam is creating a solution to detect when the snow accumulation on a roof starts to affect the structural integrity of the building. Mr. Adam Shoda, the Engineering teacher at Incline High School, initiated the InvenTeam application process and then worked with the students during the summer to finalize the proposal.
The InvenTeam will also work with the Incline Education Fund (IEF) to help guide the students through the development of their invention. IEF will work with the local community to bring industry professionals to act as mentors to the students and will also source additional funding to help the students build a prototype of their product and bring it to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, next June to be showcased at a technical review with the other seven teams.

It may be hard to believe, but we are already finishing up the first semester of school!
This Friday is Nevada Day, so there is NO School on 10/27. Enjoy the three-day weekend.
It always seems as if there is non-stop activity from Halloween to New Year’s, so remember to check here (and your school calendars) for up-to-date info on activities and events.
Here are a few exciting announcements and the breakdown for this coming week.
Incline Elementary School
IES hosted their annual Jog-A-Thon and successfully raised ~$25,000 to fund a P.E. teacher for the year. Donations are still being accepted here: IES PTA Jog A Thon or by bringing a check to the front office.
IES is hosting an “author visit” with the distinguished novelist, Suzanne Morgan Williams. She will be providing a writing workshop series for the 4th and 5th graders on October 25th, 26th and Nov 7th & 8th. This enrichment program is being funded by the Incline Education Fund through a grant by the Nevada Arts Council.
And put the next PTA meeting on your calendar: it is on 11/13 at 4:00 in the Teacher’s Lounge.
Incline Middle School
The Halloween Dance is HERE! Thursday, Oct 26th from 6-8pm. All middle school kids are invited. Parents can still volunteer to help here: Halloween Dance Help
IMS is hosting their second Trash to Treasure event next weekend, 11/4. From 10-2.
The Treasure to Treasure project received a grant from the Tahoe Fund to clean up our area of the Tahoe basin and design a project that will ultimately help inform the wider community about the fragility of our environment.
All of Incline Village is invited to clean up their own neighborhood or one of the neglected or overlooked areas where trash accumulates.
Incline Middle School will be the “home base” for the event. You can pick up any necessary trash pick-up supplies and you can bring your haul back to IMS for disposal.
All ‘resuable’ items collected will be sorted out and ‘repurposed’ into both small and large art project(s) that will eventually be displayed around town.
Additionally, our local partner in education, Incline Education Fund, will be supplying food and drinks for participants.

Through a collaboration with the IHS Boosters and the Incline Education Fund, Incline High School is now offering IN-SCHOOL College Counseling services from EdPlanIt! ALL seniors will get one-on-one appointments with certified college-counselor Leslie Hermann. Unable to stay retired, retired IHS Principal, Leslie Hermann, has gone on to receive her college counseling certification and is providing services twice/week.

Mostly a quiet week on the school front… just these three items:
-If you haven’t seen it on the calendar, look for the attached flyer for more info on the FREE Community Presentation this Thursday, 9/28, from 5:30-7:30. Lake Tahoe School is hosting middle school counselor & private practice therapist who will speak on “Middle School Superpowers; Raising Resilient Tweens in Turbulent Times.”
-It’s going to be a little quiet around town next week as the K12 schools are on break from Oct 2-6.

Saturday, Nov 4th., there will be a Community-wide, post-Halloween clean up!
